Filthy Rich!
Dedicated to all those minimum wage workers who are forced to work on Thanksgiving Day due to corporate greed

Uncle Scrooge
Has an eye on you!
There are products to consume
Holiday work to do
Trends to fit in
Styles to hoard
Customers will fight for
Theses prices at the door
The newest “craze” for egos to score
She scans their items that she cannot even afford
To her, retirement is folklore

Food and rent
Always in the back of her mind
She skips lunch when the bills are behind
Embarrassed in thought that she still needs food stamps
Her customers in line demand, “Half off of these pants!”

Meanwhile,
Her entire family gathers around the Thanksgiving feast
That she helped prepare on little sleep
Leftovers, she'll eat
Alone and deplete

There are relatives from out of town that she missed
$7.70 an hour for record profits takes precedence
Her legs ache from standing on a hard floor all day
She wonders if she’ll ever have to work on Christmas day

A society of things materialism brings
Profits before tradition, spirituality, and family
Self-indulgence is killing humanity
Taking the “other” out of the community
Gluttony is pilfering the American dream
“None for you and all for me!”

Alienated from one another
There is no keeper
No sister
No brother

When livelihoods don’t meet survival needs
When greed becomes a stampede
When the people have no more to bleed…

Take a moment and ponder this
How bad will we allow it to get?
While corporate accumulators continue the grit
Pumping a fist with a sales pitch
Slave wages bewitch
A financial pit
While billionaires get
Filthy rich!
